Lou Garrew has cast a great deal of divinational magic and determined that the source of the disaster can be tracked down to the Arch-Mage Valdon. Lou has assembled the entire party and given them a ship, Captain, and Crew to transport them to the Tower where he was last known to reside.

Valdon was a powerfull mage of renown, who used to rule his Island Kingdom with an iron fist in a velvet glove. Famous for his quick action, battle readiness, as well as his mercy, he ushered in an era of peace and enlightenment for 50 years, until 1 day he simply disappeared and was lost without a trace. That was 50 years ago and since then his island has been ruled by 3 warrior kings who all vie for total control of the Island, yet none of them sem to be able to hold more than one third....

Lew has determined through commune spells, that Valdon is in hiding somewhere, not on this plane. He has failed to locate him, but knows that a Vital clew to his whereabouts

is certain to exist somewhere in Valdon's disused tower.

It is disused but not abandoned. There are a band of large green monsters guarding the front door. Some say they are demons, no one knows for sure what they are. Those wishing to plunder the tower have been stopped, killed, eated, or scared off by the demons. On 2 seperate occasions a party of scavengers attempted to go further and were tough enough to get past the demons, yet the squires left outside to watch the horses heard terrible screams and never saw their masters return from inside. On the second occasion a flaming skinless head was tossed out to the squires and they ran for 24 hours untill they killed the horses they were on.

Our adventure starts on the ship parked just 100 yards south of Valdon's tower, with the adventurers assembled and ready to investigate further into Valdon's whereabouts...

The Party was rowed to the shore by a sailor who was missing a hand, a leg, an eye, and a real accent. Once on shore they encountered the guardians of Valdon's tower. They were some sort of giant troll hybrids, standing on an iron grate. After polymorphing half of them into random farm animals, and killing the rest, the party managed to enter the tower. The 1st room contained a foe that was beyond them, a Balrog. O.K. well it wasn't really beyond them, in fact they made short work of it. Yet upon defeat the Balrog turned into a drunken dwarf "Darzhak". Tannis challenged him to a drinking contest and beat him by actually getting drunk.

Behind the Dwarf was a large ornate door that made the party answer riddles to get to the other side.(See Picture)

When they failed to answer the riddle properly, the door would slam down and crush them for 400 hit points of damage

(1/2 on a save!)

Behind the riddle door was the wizard's Alchemy lab and his bedroom. ...

Suddenly out from under the bed rolled Zy-Mol with his bow drawn. He launched 3 arrows, each striking home. He was killed immediately and left to rot on the floor. In the bedroom they found Valdon's journal.

Valdon's Journal

1211 R.S.T.

Augustus principio
The Dwarven engineer corp. finished up the final construction today, and I took them all home. They knew there would be the prescribed rituals, and precautions, yet they insisted on making trouble anyway. I cast the blindness on all 250 of them as I did when I brought them here and led them thru the unique path in and out of this dimension.

The way they complained and carried on, you'd think I was being as evil as the Pharaohs who had all of their construction workers killed. Unfortunately the "curse" struck again.

Throughout the entire stay of the dwarves, some of the more superstitious of them have claimed that my world is cursed, that some flaw crept into into it as I created it from nothingness and lingers on to harass and attack the unwary. In 15 weeks, 4 dwarves have Disappeared, leaving no trace.

Perhaps it was the unnerving of the supposed curse or the eagerness to leave and return home. Perhaps the dwarf was just an idiot, but on the return trip, despite my constant supervision, a dwarf named Murgil managed to drown. I Cast a reverse time spell as soon as I saw he was dead, but to no avail. My High Priest, Samel, was back in dimension "Lock" and there was no way any of them wanted to return. They accepted a 50,000 gold "Interment" fee and called it even. I left my beautiful bride, Lock, with 13 gnomish interior decorators; she seems to love her new home. She is taking to it like a duck to water.

Augustus 10
It took me longer than expected to return the dwarves to their distant homeland, due to an outbreak of the plague known as "The White Death". It took me a week to figure out safe routes for all my workers. It would not do to have my reputation, as an employer soiled so soon after the construction of Castle Lock was finished.

Augustus 12
Disaster!! Upon returning to Lock, I received grave news. All 13 of the gnomes had met with "White Death" and died during my absence. I burned all the bodies for health reasons; according to the instructions that Samel had given me the last time we met with White Death. Lock looks fine, but I will have Samel give her a thorough exam tonight.
(Later that day) Samel returns from his daylong prayers and examines Lock. Although she is a little run down, she is declared plague free, and Samel prescribes rest for her.

Augustus 15
My beautiful bride, Lock, is in 1 of her moods again today. I agreed to get her another team of decorators. She says that the ones I created for her are terrible. Elemental, automatons, and extra planar servants have absolutely no imagination, and most of them are clumsy oafs (is that the plural of oaf?)

Augustus 17
I have arrived in the Elven city of Gai-Dom and managed to contract a team of their finest interior decorators. They call themselves "Fashion design artists" but whatever. They were wary of my security precautions, but the village elders manage to convince them, after I make a charitable donation of 100,000 gold to the education fund for the city.

Augustus 25
Once again, paradise lost. My private world, a paradise to me, seems to do nothing but vex my wife. She is increasingly agitated; angry all the time, snapping at me and she has actually attacked 1 of the decorators. Samel has cast every cure, every remove curse, every dispel evil in his arsenal, yet the situation worsens.

Septimbrius 2
My patience is running thin, I react poorly, I killed 1 of my horses when it spooked. I loved that horse, I am losing my grip.

Septimbrius 4
Lock believes she knows how to help both of us. After a long talk with her I am leaving to go recruit a large number of people to come keep us company. She knows that it is the solitude, the loneliness that fuels the anger. I know of a village that is being Harassed by a rogue Titan. Today I will slay him, become their hero and ask them to come live in a paradise of my own creation.

Septimbrius 6
The village elders are grateful, but have a hard time believing in paradise. I have arranged for a shipload of 150 of the villagers to sail to the site, 5 miles due south of my tower and await my summoning.

Septimbrius 11
I feel so weak, I ha

The party managed to descipher the journal and left on their ship to find the portal into Valdon's Private Cosmos. Illuvhiril took off flying above the ship and her magical presence activated the portal above the ship. Unbeknowst to them, the portal opened into Valdon's pocket dimension underwater. The portal started dumping water out at a tremendous rate. (See photo below)

Dimension "Lock"
Passing through the portal led the party under the water of a
great lake. Castle "Lock" stood on the edge of the cliffs of insanity, overlooking Lake "Lock". Upon arriving and negoting the cliffs, the party entered the castle and made it into the cloakroom safely, where they discovered an odd device...

lakelock2.jpg

The cloakroom decice was foriegn to the party, yet seemed strangely familiar to the players, especially anyone familiar

with "Kopf Vending"...

Valdon's tower has some more giant troll guards and some water filled rooms, the only real challenge came from Valdon himself and his wife "Lock". True sight revealed Lock to be a succubus, who tried to kiss Kassandra!
That would prove to be her undoing. Kassandra kissed back...
HARD!!. Besides being immune to energy drain, she was able to
rip the lips off the succubus and then beat her ass silly. Kassandra then saved the day by grabbing the body and teleporting to her stronghold. Valdon easily mopped up the rest of the party using Time stop and other time altering spells. Yet lacking Lock, he deigned to negotiate and eventually came out from under the evil spell of the succubus and revert to his normal "Good" self. Thus his experiments were halted.

He had been working on a 10th level spell to alter the property of water on a grand scale. His wife was a nixie in life and he thought that she still was a nixie. Valdon combined elements of purify water with Lo-Don's destructive sphere to make a very large body of water convert from
salt water to fresh water. It was this fresh water that killed the tritons and the other sea life living in the Vermillion trench.

A misguided environmentalist attempting to alter our world and improve the water actually upset the delicate balance
of nature and caused much more damage than he could imagine.

Moral of the story;
It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature.
